concepts to drive a collaboration

Between the different labs at ESAA (mecatronica, locus sonus, hypermedia and 3d) and the students/teachers coming from chicago SAIC (school of arts institute chicago) in the framework of the FACE program.

initial ideas:

  1. locus sonus proposes the use of sound generated in one context to infere in another. plus to keep and eye on the aspects of the social dynamics of the present collaboration plus the potential expansion into other groups with similar interests.
  2. all the labs share the data via a server. via GATES
  3. hooking a wiimote to a mobile phone. data hops from one spot to the next one?
  4. douglas talks about opencv witch is based on openframeworks, theres already a collaboration between this 2 projects.

all this concepts resound with the notion of the Other, and also for me they are kind of demanding for a quality that the wii doesnt have by default, that of location awareness.

rob proposes the use of language, of words that can be typed from one side of the planet and affect on the other end.

(i think this is a great way to integrate both communities, of course the irc chat could offer such basic lieu)

theres a chance to share the data from the wii capteurs connected via internet, the waves in the lake chicago.

"the sensor one choses defines the world one sees" or "for whom has a hammer everything looks like a nail"

questions:

  1. is it possible to locate wiimotes via the infra red camera of a third one? like in the jhonny lee projects.
  2. how many wiimotes can be used as clients at one precise time? 4?
  3. the camera IR inside the wiimote sends data in a resolution of 1024x768(?) this data is processed inside the wii and certainly we only get that data, not video data.
  4. see the examples de jhonylee en youtube.

Rob Drinkwater presenta el ArtBus, un micro controlador (not like the arduino that has ins and outs, the artbus boards are either In or Out it can make use of OSC and as said before each board its either digitizer or a capture device. The application in python is called OSC to Artbus. cada modulo tiene una direccion.

En el segundo dia de trabajo en Niza decidimos integrar el espacio de Second Life, para esto es necesario crear una arquitectura que pueda acoger nuestros experimentos acusticos dentro y fuera del mundo sintetico.

We have now an object called locator coded by Robb Lane, it allow pd to get position information from SL avatars.
