The "Locustream" project, designed by Locus Sonus research group, hosted by the Aix en Provence School of Art (l'École supérieure d'art d'Aix en Provence Félix Ciccolini), offers internet users the possibility of listening to live sounds coming from hundreds of microphones placed around the world by the various participants in the project. These sounds are made available via interactive map and other interfaces.

The purpose of these general terms and conditions of use is to set out the terms in which the "Locustream" project is made available to internet users. Any use of "Locustream" is therefore subject to these terms and conditions. If you refuse all or part of these terms and conditions, please do not use "Locustream".

If you wish to actively participate in the "Locustream" project and contribute to it by installing a microphone to capture environmental sounds that will be broadcast as part of the project, you need to create an account by clicking here.

1. Access to sounds broadcast by microphones

Access to the sounds emanating from the different microphones is free and open access. Simply connect to the URL address of a microphone participating in the "Locustream" project, by selecting the icon of the microphone that interest you on the world map ("Locustream sound map"). With one click, you are connected to the microphone you have selected and you can hear the sound it captures, through standard audio equipment. It is also possible to access the streams using other available interfaces and applications.

2. Using sounds from microphones

The use of sounds captured by the microphones of the "Locustream" project is free and open access. Therefore, any user is free to distribute the sound, including publicly, to record it, adapt it, integrate it into a art work, etc., without any restriction.

It is nevertheless specified that the use of sounds coming from the microphones of the "Locustream" project is carried out at the risk and peril of the user, who takes sole responsibility for their use under the conditions that he himself will have defined. It is up to the user to ensure that the use of sounds will not give rise to complaints from third parties.

In the event of the use of sounds emitted within the framework of the "Locustream" project, for example within the framework of an artistic project, the user undertakes to cite Locus Sonus (

3. Exclusion of liability

The Aix-en-Provence School of Art is engaged in this project for artistic and academic, non commercial research. The Aix-en-Provence School of Art declines all responsibility for the use of sounds coming from the microphones of the "Locustream" project.

Any user of the sounds made available to him under the terms and conditions mentioned above thus irrevocably waives the responsibility of the Aix-en-Provence School of Art, including in the event of a claim or complaint from a third party concerning sounds broadcast via "Locustream".
